Launch
On October 19, 2005 at
11:05 am, the Titan 4B launched from Space Launch
Complex-4 East (SLC-4E) at Vandenberg AFB carrying
a classified payload from the National Reconnaissance
Office. The Titan 4B is a $411 million dollar
vehicle and is the last of more than 500 other
missiles carrying the Titan name. The Titan
program was born 50 years ago to develop a two-stage
intercontinental ballistic missile, which eventually
morphed into a launch vehicle for astronauts
and satellites. Several members of the Deragon
team had the unique opportunity to witness and
