Kingfisher shopping centre redevelopment enters next stage

Capital & Regional, the specialist retail property company, has launched the second phase of its multi-million redevelopment plans for the Kingfisher Shopping Centre in Redditch. The work is in-line with Capital & Regional's long-term strategy to reposition the 900,000 sq ft Centre to tap into the affluent catchment of the area.

Capital & Regional will carry out extensive improvements to the Centre and create a new community space for the town and a new modern fashion retail zone. The enhancements follow on the £2 million redevelopment of 'The Hub', which saw the creation of a dedicated 35,000 sq ft leisure quarter. New occupiers attracted include national catering brands Nandos and The Real China together with a new Pure Gym complementing the existing seven screen Vue cinema.

Capital & Regional will carry out the redevelopment work over the next five months. Worcester Square will be given an extensive facelift, with bold, modern décor and Evesham Walk will be transformed with contemporary, double storey, glass fronted shop fronts. This will help further strengthen the retail mix of Kingfisher, which is anchored by Debenhams, Marks & Spencer, Next and Primark.

3月k Bourgeois, Executive Director at Capital & Regional, said: "Our significant investment in the Kingfisher reflects Capital & Regional's commitment to Redditch town centre and to strengthening its position as a sub-regional dominant retail destination.

"We are creating further opportunities for retailers to trade well and grow sales as we continue our investment in Kingfisher. The work we have carried out to date and the next phase we have planned supports this and we are confident that we can deliver a scheme that genuinely benefits the community."

The investment in the shopping centre has already attracted a series of fashion retailers ahead of the new refurbishment work, with the recent introduction of Krisp, Roman Originals, Yours and fashion footwear retailer, tReds. The new fashion brands will be clustered together along the revamped Evesham Walk, producing a smarter and more vibrant shopping environment.
